In 2009 a group of friends travelled to Uganda for a mission trip. They served local churches and ministries, played a lot of soccer, and helped build a community center. Before the team could start the construction of the building, they literally had to make the bricks. That day the team made 658 bricks, laying the foundation for both the Ugandan community center and Project 658.
Feeling inspired, the team returned to America with a renewed sense of passion and direction. The goal: continue to serve our refugee and immigrant neighbors stateside. After spending time in the community to assess the most primary needs, Project 658 officially started out of a condemned one-bedroom apartment offering ESL classes and free clothing.
